This document contains the part numbers for the different Audio head units in the A/B/C/CLK class vehicles. The part numbers change quite regularly has hardware or software is updated.

The new Mereces A class and B class and W203 C / W209 CLK after mid 2004 facelift vehicles all use similar technology for their Audio and Sat Nav systems.  The units are slightly differently shaped (A and B are the same) so are not interchangable. This is also true for ML/GL/R class systems, but those are covered in a different document.

This document shows the part numbers for the different systems - US, European and Japanese systems are all different.

The North American COMAND system is actually completely different - the Navigation unit is optional in it, and it is made by Alpine as oppose to Becker. It is actually called MCS-II and not COMAND.

The COMAND APS systems can not be reasonably fitted to the older cars, they are the wrong shape and even in the case of the cars like the C and CLK vehicles which have been supplied with both older and newer systems many other control units in the car need updating to make this work, and its almost certainly cheaper to just buy a post facelift car !

 

W169 A Class and W245 B Class

The A/B class Audio-20 units are used in the Sprinter. The Comand APS in Sprinter has a different part number, but I have heard of people sucessfully putting an A/B Class COMAND-APS into a Sprinter.

At some point in late 06 /  07 the video input was removed from COMAND-APS - we have not yet ascertained exactly when this change occured, but the items in the list below that say 'no video input' definetly have no video input. As there are no video options (TV, reversing camera) supported in the A/B class there is no new unit available with the video input.

Again, the video input connector was removed around 2007, and I have noted units that I know have no video input connector in the table. Units earlier that those which say 'has video input' also have video input.
